And it's passing strange

fatale
At some point in the last two years I seem to have leveled up in Femme. I learned how to apply eyeshadow (via internet tutorials). I found a pair of heels I could walk in without dying (Fluevogs). The advent of Mad Men fashion let me find dishy--and occasionally even classy--dresses. Heels have become steadily more wearable*, and now I have a collection. I can even dance for hours in some of them. And now, Goth help me, I've developed a fondness for lip gloss and Urban Decay eyeshadow**.

Now I just need to learn to style my hair.

* Possibly having thirty fewer pounds balanced on the balls of my feet is helpful here.

** Because I never develop fondnesses for cheap things.

At least you have good thick hair. Mine just.... flops.
Tinted lipgloss is a gift from the gods, however.

I've always been good on heels (though Fluevogs certainly make it easier) and slowly edged my way into the makeup world (though I'm still mostly an eyeliner-and-go girl) but hair seems to be some kind of watermark I just can't cross. I'm so bad at it I get my hair blown out the night before job interviews.

Good luck!

cheap eyeshadow is a giant waste of money. It is on your face, then off your face. Spend more, and voila!

trust. My eyeshadow collection is vast + wide.

The best hair-do book I have is one of those marketed-to-kids things that includes a spiral book with hard covers and a box with hair doodads in it. (I have two of these; one is good, one is meh, so look through it before you buy, if you find one.)

Also, an extremely easy updo for hair shoulder-length or longer is basically a variant of a flipped ponytail. (This is what I mean by "flipped ponytail"), only you tuck the ponytail in instead of pulling it through. Instead of trying to explain, I googled and found a tutorial with photos. I don't even need bobby-pins to hold this one, just a ponytail holder.

Thank you so much for the link to that hair-do! It's so EASY and I can make even my babyfine (and thinning) hair do it. A few whispy curls, a classy barrette and it's done and I look like I actually know what to do with my hair :)

Thanks again!

Wow, yeah. That worked amazingly well, and it stayed in place even through some trial headbanging. All the joy of having my hair out of my face without a bulky clip. I'll test it out dancing some night and report back.

Can you point me in the direction of any good eyeshadow tutorials? I finally bit the bullet and ordered a bunch of eyeshadows from Geek Chic Cosmetics on Black Friday (so many amaaaaazing colours!) but have no idea how to go about applying them, lol!

I adore 'Vogs! I have two pairs (one steampunk-ish heeled boot and one black and red with a bunch of straps up my ankle that I wore for my wedding). I'm trying really hard to convince myself that I don't actually *need* the Elizabeth heels, but I'm not sure that will work for very much longer (especially if they go on sale!).

At some point I also need to learn how to do Things with my hair, but I despair of my abilities in that department!

Now I'm not sure which ones I looked at. Some of the original cheap eyeshadow kits I got (usually Almay) came with instructions, which were incredibly helpful. Apparently Urban Decay expects you to know what you're doing before you shell out for their products.
